Ashanti Selah is an independent UK-based artist, producer, and label owner, respected around the world for his dedication, creativity, and significant contribution to reggae music through his productions and releases.Growing up within the active legacy of his father, Aba Shanti-I, a world-renowned sound system operator and DJ, it was a natural progression for Selah to become involved in the culture and the work. Being so closely connected to and inspired by the movement from an early age, he was continually encouraged to develop his own path within the music.
Having spent many years as a sound system crew member, Ashanti's passion for music naturally evolved through learning instruments and writing songs. This foundation led him into music production during his early teens, where he began developing his skills with guidance and encouragement from respected figures within the scene, including Robert Tribulation, Dennis Bovell, Joe Ariwa, and through the support and infrastructure provided by his father's family label, Falasha Recordings.
As an musician; Ashanti has been involved with many live projects including having the opportunity to work alongside some of the most legendary artists in the scene as part of their live show as a keys player and occasionally backing vocal work.
Through the work of the label, Ashanti has had the opportunity to travel to many countries as a DJ, performing at iconic events and festivals alongside artists he has frequently collaborated with. These include Dan I Locks, a regular featured artist on the label, as well as a rotating cast of guest performers on live shows such as Rootsman Sax and Sabolious. Whether vocalist or musician, each brings their own unique energy to the stage—but one thing remains certain: the show must go on!
